Frequently asked questions

IS THIS A VEGETARIAN OR VEGAN COMMUNITY?

We dig herbivores (Igi – our logo – is also part of the club) and have a lot of respect for them. Our focus lies on reduction, regardless on where you are on the journey – so it’s not just for veggies and vegans – but they’re of course more than welcome!

SHOULDN’T AN OCEANEER ALSO REDUCE PLASTIC-USAGE?

100% – if we’re talking about the health of our oceans, we believe that plastic usage is the other big topic next to industrial animal farming & fishing. However, we believe that there are lots of amazing organizations out there already that are targeting this part of the problem, and hope to partner up with them to achieve the overall goal of healthier oceans and less suffering.

AND WHAT ABOUT FLYING?

Yes! We need to reduce, and we high-five every organization that encourages people to do so! Global aviation is reponsible for around 2% of GHG-emissions (all transport combined is around 15%, i.e. similar to livestock farming), and without any action/technological development, this is expected to rise to 22% by 2050. Moreover, it’s a very small % of humans that are responsible for this – for example, flying made up 75% of our founder’s carbon footprint in 2018.
We compensate our carbon emissions from flying through Greenpop – a wonderful tree-planting organization in South Africa.

HOW WILL ACTUAL BEHAVIOR BE CHANGED?

We hope to change behaviour by sharing relevant content through social media, lead from the front (through our Ambassadors) and motivate members of the community to keep reducing by measuring our shared impact.

Oceaneers

Oceaneers is a community-driven initiative created by two ocean lovers who wanted to inspire others to see that the biggest positive impact they could make to ocean sustainability was to change their food choices.
